BC Hydro says more than 55,000 homes are without power in the Fraser valley mostly in Abbotsford and Chilliwack on Wednesday afternoon.
An estimated 40,000 customers left in the dark are in Abbotsford and Chilliwack, with others in Delta, Langley and Surrey.
BC Hydro’s website says a ‘transmission circuit failure’ is responsible for the massive power outage.
It says the power outage started shortly after 1:30 p.m. PT.
