Abbotsford police say a man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after he showed up at the city’s airport with a loaded SKS rifle and ammunition.
The man was observed with what appeared to be a rifle bag slung over his shoulder while speaking to airport staff and management at 3:30 p.m. PT.
“Within minutes we arrive on scene and we locate the suspect in an airport washroom,” Const. Ian MacDonald said.
MacDonald said it’s not clear what the 28-year-old Chilliwack resident was intending to do with the weapon.
Investigators are conducting detailed interviews with people the man interacted with at the airport to determine his motivation and whether he uttered any threats.
MacDonald said the staff acted calmly and quickly and it was a “good, collaborative effort” with police.
