PM Trudeau will meet with officers, wildfire officials and Premier Horgan
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in Williams Lake, B.C., today, getting his first look at the wildfire crisis that forced roughly 50,000 people to be evacuated from their homes at some point over the past month.
Trudeau will begin his day by meeting with Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP members in Williams Lake, before later meeting with officials with the BC Wildfire Service. Trudeau will then take an aerial tour of fires in the surrounding region.
It’s been more than 25 days since the first major wildfire of note began in the BC Interior. Since then, there have been over a dozen different wildfires in the region, forcing the evacuation of several communities during July.
People were allowed back in Williams Lake, the largest city in the region, after a 12-day evacuation last Thursday.
