Sarah Ross lost her house in a fire, but her luck changed when she checked her ticket from last week’s draw

It has been an emotional summer for Sarah Ross, whose family home in Lumby, B.C., burned down in June.  She and her family lost everything in the fire and have been living in a rental unit ever since.  But last week her luck changed when she checked her lottery ticket and realized she had won $1 million in the Lotto 6/49 draw.

The 33-year-old said both she and her husband plan to keep their jobs, but there may be some travel in their future. “The first things I bought after winning Lotto 6/49 were stuffed animals for my kids,” said the mother of two. “This is exciting, because when the time comes we can help them with university!” Ross says she bought the winning ticket at the Pharmasave on 30th Avenue in Vernon. While picking up her cheque, she thanked the community for helping her family out when they lost their home. “It’s been an emotional time,” said Ross. “Our family and community have been so supportive throughout the summer. We’re very thankful.”
